An interview with Satya (Rita)
What does yoga mean to you ?

Yoga is the heartbeat of my life; it has remained a constant guidepost and support system through many growth processes for the past twenty five years. Teaching yoga is a gift of spirit that supports my own  sadhana by being witness to the growth and inner awakening of the students in my classes.

How has your involvement in yoga changed and developed over time?

Yoga was simply a gentle form of physical exercise in my life for the first twelve years. I participated in classes periodically, experimenting with yoga teachers of different disciplines, occasionally staying with a teacher I felt comfortable with until he or she moved away.
Eventually, I found a teacher that introduced me to the deeper spiritual aspects of yoga, and I began to weave some meditation into my practice. At that time, I began to experience a re-connectedness to the spiritual disciplines of my youth. This reawakened spiritual awareness lead to a period of self-inquiry and a quest for how to apply spiritual principals into everyday life.
Within the past eight years ,this quest has guided me to the knowing that my path of yoga is to encompass all aspects of my life, including my career choices.

Describe your perception of what a yoga teacher provides students.

A yoga teacher provides a safe, secure environment in which students can explore and experience their inner connectedness with their true nature. By guiding and encouraging each student to embrace the heart of yoga, a yoga teacher enables every individual to awaken to the wisdom of the body/mind/spirit.
